Stork had longtime been the supplier of bogies to Nederlandse Spoorwegen (Dutch Railways) for the IRM trains. Follow on contracts VIRM 2,3 and VIRM 4 were secured through the system supplier Bambardier, but  completely changing the contractual relationships, and production facilities were already dismantled. The contract was to be delivered, while contract management was to be changed and professionalised, and issues with the delivery of the first series were impacting the engineering process.

Solution

A strong diverse team was formed focused on the delivery of the project, managing engineering changes, establishing new production facilities, establishing a new supply chain and bringing operational and financial control. The project was delivered in time without any major warranty claims even after the extended warranty period.

Warranty issues on the first series were dealt with separately so as not to impact the project. I resolved and settled this case in the favour of Stork after 5 years of battle.
